Web Based Access to Local PC Install
We are currently working with Win 7 on all of our computers and have the latest version of PC installed locally. While most of our users have local access to computers on the network some of our users telecommute. As of right now we have a simple VPN setup to allow our remote users to enter data into PC but we would like to have web based access for these users so we can do away with the VPN as sometimes it causes headaches. We have been moving most of our applications to web based interfaces that have access to our local servers via WAMP. Is this possible with PC being installed on a local server and then being access via the web?

Powerchurch does not have such an interface, as it is a Foxpro based system, which is really network client server. The system needs some local DLLs to run, and a mapped drive to access the data.HBCMediaServices wrote:We are currently working with Win 7 on all of our computers and have the latest version of PC installed locally. In the past, I've used GoToMyPC to allow a home-based user to have access to a networked machine at the church. Usually the connection was to the same computer that was used for Sunday services, as it sat relatively idle during most of the week. It is much safer than a standard VPN, but can be pricey.
However, you could move to Powerchurch Online, and do away with having to have Powerchurch on the network. It is accessable through a local client, as well as via smartphone and tablet. This would eliminate all need for VPNs or other work arounds.

Re: Web Based Access to Local PC Install
After reading your post I did a little research on how to implement a web based interface for a local install. It looks like http://www.foxweb.com would be the answer to this issue. Since the software is FoxPro based this would allow the web based interface. I am not sure how to actually do this because I am not versed in the FoxPro scripting language, but after a couple months of learning could probably come up with something.
In regards to GoToMyPC if setup properly VPNs are very secure. VPNs do not require that you have an available desktop for a user to log into. We do, however, employ the use of LogMeIn but for remote assistance only. LogMeIn has a free version, which we use, to skirt the costs of other expensive software and gives us everything we need to remotely repair any computer on the network as long as you have a network connection.
I guess right now we will stick with the VPN until we can figure something else out that will be easier for us to get to PC remotely. In regards to PC Online, we just purchased PC local install at the beginning of the year. So PC Online is not an option for us right now.

FWIW .. Foxweb sounds like Foxpro routines that would have to be compiled into the executable. Not something that is done at the local level.
