Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

Sharing data between computers

Post by mannabible »

Hello Comrades,

It's me again with another questions for the day. Can data be shared between computers with the same version of PowerChurch installed? In other words, if one person in the office enters data into PowerChurch then copies the data to a CD, can another person in the office use the CD to update data on their computer without wiping out all previous data.

Help,

Why not just network the systems, it doesn't cost anything extra. I'm assuming that in this day and age, your office is networked to share the internet access, and that works to everyone's advantage here.

You setup one computer where you install Powerchurch, and follow the instructions for networking in the Powerchurch Plus v11 manual on page 4, or as listed in this Knowledgebase Article:
https://www.powerchurch.com/support/35/ ... work-drive.

Much safer way of doing things, as copying a backup then restoring on another computer does overwrite the previous data. Using one computer as the server and the rest as clients makes sure that everyone has access to the same data, and you only have to worry about one backup of data.
