Good Afternoon,
I have an existing database in MS access and I would like to upload the entire database to Power Church. Has anybody done this? If so, can you share your expertise with us?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Upload
Its not possible to directly upload from Access to Powerchurch. You can export a mailing list to comma separated items, or Excel spreadsheet to import, but that does not allow you to import any of the personal data items.hindutemple wrote:Good Afternoon,

Powerchurch can do a conversion for you for a fee. You should contact them directly for more information.
What we had to do was merge two separate stovepipe databases, so we just entered the data by hand. We had under 200 members at the time, so it didn't take more than two weeks entering data for an hour or two a night. However, you will have to decide what is best for you.

I'd check with Powerchurch to see what it would cost for the conversion. It'll save alot of time and effort.hindutemple wrote:Thanks for reply. Yes I have tried Export/Import but it did not work because the table structure is different. I was just wondering that if any body has done. But Looks like there is only one option that enter data by hand. If any body has any different idea would like to hear.
Thanks again,

We imported our access database which contained our mailing address information. I exported the database file to a dBase file from MS Access. I then imported this file into the Family Mailing List module. It does not create the individual records, however it did create the Family records with the correct address. There was still some manual work that had to be done, but I did not have to type in all the mailing addresses. You have to create the individual records manually, there is no import method for this that I am aware of. You will also need to go in and set the 'flags' of the mailing codes and and custom fileds you may have setup.
Once you have your MS Access file exported to a dBase file, go to the 'Membership' menu, choose "Family Mailing List, then 'Import Data'. A wizzard will walk you through the rest of the process. Hope this helps.
For more information on this topic, you can find it in the v9 manual on pages 71 and 72. It provides a table of the structure for the import records. I had to make a few minor changes, but it was easy to do within access. After I got this in the correct format, I then exported it to the dBase format.
