PowerChurchPlus8 program lost from computer

Post by martha »

I am wondering if anyone else has experience this problem. If so what was the solution. My problem is I've lost the powerchurchplus8 program from my computer. I've tried find, and could not locate it. I reinstalled it and I still cannot get it to open up. It shows under find to be on my C: drive but I still cannot get it to open up. The message I keep getting is, "Error: open Memo file c:\pcplus8\date\fainfo.fpt is missing or is invalid." I don't have a clue what that message means. I'v tried everything I can think of to retrieve the file with no avail. Can anyone please help A.S.A.P.
Thank You
Martha

Martha,

The message you're seeing means that one of your data files (specifically, the "fainfo" file) is corrupt and cannot be read by PowerChurch. You'll need to call and speak to a technician to fix this. We'll need a couple of pieces of information about your accounting setup, like your current accounting month and things like that. We can then send you a replacment file to fix the one that's broken.

We're available 9am - 6pm Eastern Monday - Friday at (800) 486-1800. You will need to have a current support contract, or you can opt for a one-time call.

Thanks!

Martha .. what did he do .. and most of all, is your Funds Accounting data correct ?? He may have known how to recover the file from a backup, but did you lose any data ??

If he selectively restored just the FAINFO files from a backup, that would work as long as the backup is current (ie. from the same accounting month). There's a utility in the diagnostic program (PCDiag9.exe) that recovers a broken INFO file, and that's what we would have done.

Retrieving the lost PowerChurchPlus8 Fainfo file

Post by martha »

Its my understanding that the Fainfo file from PowerChurchPlus7 which I previously had was transfered to PowerChurchPlus8 and it did work just fine . I did not loose any data. I did have all data on a back up disk, but did not need to use it.
Thanks Again

You really need to check things. There are certain settings in the FAINFO file that could really trip you up. The biggest is the what your current accounting month is. I am assuming your version 7 was in a different month than where you were in version 8. By just copying in a different settings file you can have unpredicatble results.

It might not look like you have not lost any data and technically you have not. But the program uses information in the fainfo file to correctly report your data to you. What accounting month does the program say you are now in?
