Printing from PCP via Remote Desktop and Multiple OSes

Post by AisquithPCA »

One last question... I have 4 users, all accessing PCP via remote desktop, hosted by a machine running WinXP Pro. One of the users has WinME, the other one Win98. When they try to print from their local machines from the host, they can't. The only thing I can think of is it's because they are on different OSes than the host. I installed the print drivers for their printers on the host , but, of course, you have to install the WinXP Pro driver. I can print, but I am running XP at home. What did I do wrong?

Nothing ... its because they're running a different OS than WinXP. This Microsoft Knowledgebase article sounds like the problem you're seeing: 302361.

If this is indeed the case, In order to fix this you're going to need to edit the regisry of all the non-WinXP computers.

FWIW ... we use GoToMyPC here, it has none of the issues of Remote Desktop, and many pluses, including additional logon security and encryption. Any operating system (including OS/2, MaxX, and Linux) that has a Java virtual machine runtime can access the computers at church, and can locally print. Its well worth the cost.
