Birth Dates without Year

Post by Vernon Bryant »

We are a new user and are working to input our membership. However, we only have birthdays without the years for most of the congregation. Is there any way to input the month and day only in the personal profile?

Unfortunately, that is a date field, and must have the year to pass edits.

Without the year, you lose the capability of getting the age of the kids for various events, Sunday School assignments etc. What we did, was mail out a new member information form asking that it be filled out so we could populate the database with the correct data.

However, if you would rather go ahead without the year, you can just enter two digits: 20 as the year, the system will set the year to 1920. So everyone will be 86 years old.

Our solution was to enter the year as "1000". If you enter a "19XX" or "20XX" year, the program will automatically calculate the age and show it next to the birthdate field. If you enter "1000", it doesn't calculate the age. Since no one could possibly be born in 1000 AD, it makes it really easy to know which birthdates include the actual year and which ones don't.

Vernon,

Great find! I've also asked about not having the year as a requirement, but basically got the same response.
