Print Properties on Cheques

I'm using a printer that has multiple print trays from which it takes paper. When I print checks it never selects the right tray. In all the other print screens I can correct this by choosing the properties button when I go to print, which gives me more options, but the properties button does not show up when printing cheques. Is there any way to work around this? Currently I am changing the default printer settings in my control panel each time I print cheques and then changing the defaults back afterwards.
