Disappearing files

We recently moved to using PC+ 9 in a networked environment. Originally I had it running on one computer with all the information necessary. I used another computer as the server and rather than exporting/importing data, I installed PC+ on the serving computer and copied the data folder from the original computer to the serving computer.

We tested using different users to make sure assigned data was accessible as needed, things seemed to be working fine. Our accountant, who has access to all areas was posting deposits and what-not and later decided to re-index. When attempting to re-index, she got an error saying apopen.dbf could not be found. I noticed the file indeed did not exist and copied again from the original computer. This continued. Various other files keep disappearing. I've had even the user file disappear and couldn't even get into the program.

What gives? What would cause these files to seemingly disappear at random? I'm at a standstill at this point and the accountant needs the system to run reports for a meeting tonight. Any ideas?

I believe the problem has to do with the way you reinstalled Powerchurch.

The best way I've seen to move to a networked environment is to either use the existing computer setup as the server, or to install Powerchurch on a computer designated as the data server.

If you moved to a new computer, setup Powerchurch as a 'new install', using the church's registration number and data. Make sure that the Powerchurch directory (folder) on the server is setup to share on the network with FULL access to ALL !! There is no need to put any Window's permissions on the directory, as Powerchurch controls the access to all the data internally.

Go to all the client machines and map the networked drive locally (see article: http://www.powerchurch.com/support/answ ... icle_id=33), then run the Netsetup9.exe program from the networked drive. This will setup the client for PC+.

Perform a backup from the old computer, then RESTORE this backup to the new computer. This insures that all the proper files are moved.

Now in your case, the first thing I would check is the share permissions, make sure that it is setup as shown in the article above. While it is describing what to do in WinME, it is much the same in WinXP.

Then also review this article: http://www.powerchurch.com/support/answ ... icle_id=41 it covers problems that can happen if some of the users have 'limited' WinXP accounts.

If everything is setup as described in those two articles, you may have to get abit deeper into it.

I'll do the backup/restore part that I skipped before. The rest I've done as the standard network setup. I figured that's what the answer would be, so I probably should have done that to begin with. I'm hoping this solves the issue, thanks.

I did some editing to my reply to add an additional resource incase that doesn't work.

I'm almost positive the backup and restore will fix that issue.
