PowerChurch goes temporarily unresponsive

Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

I will certainly check the status of my antivirus and get our computer tech people to check the schedule for scans on the server. I'll let you know what we find. Thanks for your help.

Can you tell if any other things are having problems? Quite a while ago we had an issue where the whole network would lock up for about a minute a few times a day. In our case it was a two servers configured wrong and it caused a lot of network traffic that locked everyone up. (For the geeky people something was causing a master browser election)

Can you tell if there is a spike in network traffic? It might be something that is overwhelming the network to where PowerChurch can't get access to its files.

I've had our tech guys searching for anti-virus and backup issues and they've come up with nothing that should interfere. I did notice that if I have PC open, our other church secretary gets the not responding message. Almost instantly when I close the program, she is active again. She happened to be on the phone with our tech guy when we noticed that and he suggested that we might be sharing some permissions that wouldn't allow us both on at once. Does that sound like something that could be changed within our PowerChurch setting? I can access the System Administrator log-in, but didn't see anything that linked our individual log-ins.

Any other suggestions. As of now, we have to schedule our access times not to be logged onto PowerChurch at the same time.

If one person is updating a record in Membership, and another tries to update the same record, one of you will get an error as the record is locked for update by the first person, but you shouldn't be getting blocked from opening the program nor access the database to view data.

I would check to see if the server directory, the x:\POWERCHURCH directory (where x is the drive) is setup for FULL SHARING on the server. This is not a directory that will need any sort of special server permissions, nor should it.

I didn't anything in prior posts about what your server is using for an operating system, however, if its using a Windows Server type of OS, then your systems admin needs to make sure that there are no restrictions on access to that directory whatsoever. The operating system must not be placing additional restrictions on access to the Powerchurch files, Powerchurch can control its own access through its permissions system.

Additional questions:
Are you both accessing the same area of the database at the same time: IE: Membership or Accounting?
Are you accessing the server via a hardwired network connection, or wireless?

I'm having trouble also with PowerChurch becoming unresponsive. We just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and I'm running PowerChurch 11 with the Maintenance releases. We too are networked. One file server and two clients. I have outside IT support, and they can't figure out what is going on. Is there a known compatibility issue? Any ideas I can pass on to our IT support company? Thank you, Myra

There is no compatibility issue, as I'm running PCPlus 11.55 without a hitch on Win8.1.

I'm going to ask the same questions:

What area of Powerchurch are you working in?

Are you and another user working on it at the same time? Are you wired or wireless?

I would check to see if the server directory, the x:\POWERCHURCH directory (where x is the drive) is setup for FULL SHARING on the server. This is not a directory that will need any sort of special server permissions, nor should it; Powerchurch handles its own database access and sharing.

The file server, is it running Windows Server ??
