New Installation on Windows 7 PC

Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

New Installation on Windows 7 PC

Post by BGUMC »

The new installation of Version 11 on a different PC with Windows 7 OS worked fine, except we get the error message "Cannot connect to server" when trying to download Maintenance Releases. Apparently Win 7 is blocking the request. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

You may have to set the executables to run under Admin privileges.

Is "setting the executables" a Win 7 O.S. function? or Power Church? Also I'm not sure I understand the meaning of the phrase "set the executables to run under Admin privileges"

OK ... Windows 7 sometimes requires that programs be run under 'Admin' privileges. You would find the program under the PCPLUS115 directory as pcautomr115.exe. Then right click on the program, and find the compatibility tab. Under that tab, at the bottom, there is a checkbox for 'Run this program as an Administrator'.

That may not be the problem, as you may find that you can't change that setting. In which case I would take a look at any anti-virus and/or firewall you're using. It may be blocking the program from accessing the Internet. To test, turn off your firewall, then try to run an update. If that works, then you need to add the program to the firewall's trusted program list. You'd have to use the specific instructions for your firewall by using its help system.

Thanks so much for the info. I'll try your suggestions next Sunday when we use Power Church again on the Win 7 computer.
