Payroll Posting Dates/Procedures

Post by CornerstoneCBC »

First time on the forum. My question: When posting payroll..in a situation like today...when the check is printed in November, i.e. November 25 for Sunday December 1. Does the check post for November or December? And does the check show up on November's reports or December's reports. This question takes on even more importance for us at the end of December because we don't want the first check in January to post in the prior year. Thanks

The check will post in whatever the Current Working Month is.

If the payroll is for December 1, and you want to print it on November 25th (and hand it out on Dec 1), then change the date on the print screen to Dec 1 before you print it. That will take care of the date on the check.

If you want it to post in December, but the current working month is November, go to:
Fund Accounting / Change Working Month
and change the Current Working Month to December

You can set the number of working months open in File / Preferences / Accounting Setup / Fund Accounting tab

I believe it defaults to 6 months open at one time.

As far as the January check goes, it depends on the Current Working Month.

Thank you John. I did my Dec 1 payroll this morning and it worked. Now when I do my November financials, I'm certain that this December expense will not be included. I'd like you on facebook, but don't have an account. Happy Thanksgiving

FWIW .. the system will use the transaction date to determine what month to post in. That works for v11, I forget if that also works for v10.x.

Nothing says you have to post payroll today anyway, you can wait until Dec 2nd to post if you want to.
