Cleaning out older PCP installations

Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

Cleaning out older PCP installations

Post by G.Scott »

We have recently upgraded PCP from 11.55 to 12, and after a couple maintenance releases, it appears to be working properly. While cleaning up other files, we discovered PCP files dating back to at least version 10.4, both in our mapped-drive server and the satellite machines. Is there a list identifying the files that belong to each version, such that it might be used to remove the older files while leaving the newer ones that are needed? Are any PCP "automatic" cleanup tools available?

Each version of Powerchurch installs all the files it needs under the PCPLUSxxx directory, where is the version number. You can do a standard Windows uninstall using the Programs and Features applet under the Windows control panel. This is the safest way to do this, on both the server and the clients.

Once you run the uninstall, you should still have the following under (assuming x: is the drive where Powerchurch is installed)

x:\Powerchurch\PCPLUS10
x:\Powerchurch\PCPLUS115
x:\Powerchurch\PCPLUS12

I'm fairly sure this is because the data directory is not deleted during the uninstall. This is a safety precaution in case the uninstall was an accident. If you're sure you won't need that data in the future, you can delete the older directory trees.
