Transferring Powerchurch to new computer

Postby Hunger Mountain » Mon Feb 04, 2019 12:22 pm

Hi,

We are currently using a computer operating Windows XP and are preparing to upgrade to a new computer operating Windows 10 Professional. We are running Power Church 11.55. My question is, what is the best way to confidently transfer the current Power Church program to the new computer with all current and past financial history?

Thank you,

Amber

1. Do a backup of the existing database using the Powerchurch backup utility. Keep that safe on a network storage drive, USB drive, CD, etc. You should be doing that anyway keeping it 'offsite' for any disaster recovery. Close the program.

2. Open the File Manager to show the list of folders & files on the C:\ drive. Copy the entire directory tree (folder) starting with the C:\Powerchurch top folder to a USB drive. All you should need to do is drag and drop that top folder, everything else will copy with it. Eject the drive from the old computer.

3. Bring the drive to the new computer, and plug it in. Open the drive using the This PC link on the start menu, then click on that again to get to the list of files and directories on the C:\ drive. You should now have two windows open, one showing the C: drive, and one showing the contents of the USB drive with the Powerchurch folder showing.

4. Drag and drop that Powerchurch folder from the USB drive to the C:\ drive window. The system will copy the directory tree and all files underneath.

5. Once copied, click on the Powerchurch folder to open it, then on the PCPLUS115 folder. You'll see a list of folders one of which is labeled install. Open that and look for the netsetup115 file. Double click on that. This program will then register the PCP v11.5 on the new computer. NOTE: you may get a message saying something to the effect of "a program needs to have .NET 3.5 and 4.0 installed" . All this is saying is that Windows 10 does not have some supporting files that Powerchurch needs. That notice will allow you to click on a link and install the required files from Microsoft. You WILL NEED to be connected to the Internet to do this.

6. Once all that is done, you should be able to start PCPlus without a problem.

If you have any questions, just let us know.
