Christmas Savings

Post by trues »

Is there a way to keep track of Christmas saving that members give weekly. I need it to be a separte transaction. Not part of the Tithes and Offering

Not quite sure what this is, but if this is a non-deductable type of thing, its very easy to track this. I take it that this is something like the old Christmas Clubs that banks used to have, so the money will be returned to the person to originally gave it.

You have the treasurer create a separate Christmas Club fund in fund accounting, I would think a restricted fund (if not, someone will correct me).

You would then setup a Christmas Club Contribution Fund in Contributions, and set it up so that it points to this new Funds Accounting account, and either your normal bank account, or one that you have special for this use. We have quite a few funds setup this way, with a Contribution Fund Account Number that is 'outside' of the funds that are tax-deductable. The reason for this will become clear in a second.

You would then enter their weekly savings in the contributions entry, as you would any offering, but it would post to the restricted fund, and your Christmas Club bank account (if you hare one) or your normal banking account.

When you're ready to disburse, you can print out a statement with only that special fund selected, and a report for whomever needs to cut the checks.

At the end of the year, when it comes time to print off the Income Tax Deductable Giving statements, that contribution fund would be excluded from the list of funds being listed on the statements.

We currently use a range of from 1 to 39 as Tax Deductable giving, these are the only ones selected to print on the giving statements for taxes. Contirbution funds numbered 40 and up, are non-deductable entries.
