Looking for churches in Alabama using powerchurch

Post by Tpritchett »

Our church has been using powerchurch for a number of years. We are looking for a church to visit to discuss proper account set up. We believe our accounts were not set up properly years ago and it causes a lot of issues. Our church is in Birmingham Alabama. If anyone is interested in helping us, we would be eager to talk with you.

Why do you believe the accounts were setup improperly?

We are not handling designated funds correctly. We would like to visit a church that is set up correctly.

By designated, you mean temporarily restricted? These should have been setup as separate NET ASSETS accounts using the ACCOUNTING -> FUND ACCOUNTING -> SETUP -> Maintain list of Donor Restrictions function. This function would walk you through the setup of the 3000 level Net Assets account, the 4200 level Income account, and the 4800 level Release account for each fund.

This allows you to have the designated funds available for use in your Operations account (I'm assuming these designations are for specific items in the normal operations of the church) however, you have to 'release' these funds, and any release will show up in the normal Income and Expense report.

As far as finding a church in Alabama, please note that many times churches will only visit the forums when they're having a problem, so you may not get an answer quickly.

You may want to think about purchasing access to the Online Tutorials for Fund Accounting. Once purchased they are available to your church staff anytime. These tutorials can give you a good idea of how your designations should be setup and used.
