Numbering Scheme for Activites/Skills

Post by BJNelson »

Have you designed and developed a well-structured numbering scheme for activities and skills for which you are especially proud? How about sharing it with me, a struggling newbie? Thanks.

Activities/Skills Codes

Post by MN Sue »

BJ,
I can e-mail you a copy of activites and skills used here. Basically, the first two digits are for a general minisrty i.e. Christian Ed, and the last two digits are specific to the class, Bible Study, instrument, etc.

For example 5000 is Outreach (a heading) -- every activity that begins with a 5 is an outreach ministry; 5100 is AWANA (an activity heading), 5200 is Camp, 5500 is Youth Ministires, etc. All activities beginning with 51 all are related to AWANA -- 5122 is Sparks Kindergarten, 5123 is Sparks Grade 1 and so on. It works great--I can easily print a report for the Outreach Deacon by pulling all codes beginning with 5.

Let me know if this is something you'd like e-mailed to you.

BJ or MN Sue,

I would love to get a sample of the activity and skills numbering system you use. If possible, please email me a sample. I'm a newbie to PC+10 and could use your help.

Blessings, Edlyn

I'd like to add a 'me, too' for an email of your layout.

I'm involved in re-working all of our activiities/skills since we've upgraded to v10.

AdvanceThanks!

I'd like to have one too if it isn't too much trouble.

Thanks.

It's always a good idea to plan out a numbering scheme that leaves room for future expansion. In versions prior to 9, it was essential in order to get decent reporting. In 9, however, we introduced Departments, Types, and Roles.

Departments, Types, and Roles will allow you to classify your different activities so you can group them together appropriately regardless of their skill number. I'm not saying you shouldn't renumber your activities and skills, but it's possible you can achieve similar results (as far as reports go) by setting up those codes. Just an FYI.

Zaphod,

I agree that planning out a scheme is optimal and I'm all about planning.

However, have there been any examples provided; especially from a report perspective?

Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to read the v10 manual as the finance pastor has it.
