Unable to run older versions of PC+

I have just discovered a problem running older saved versions of PC+. I have run these versions in the past with no problem. Each year I archive the entire folder for that year so I will have the data for future reference. I have stored these versions on my home computer and used them quite often for report preperation. I have recently gotten a new computer and can't be sure if these versions have ever run on this - old age memory loss. Anyway here is what is happening.
On Version 7 I get a message of "insufficient memory". Since I have 1gig of Ram I don't believe that is the true problem. On Version 8 and 8.5 I get the message "Cannot locate the Microsoft Visual FoxPro support library". Version 9 runs fine.
Just to muddy the water a little more I have a laptop which I have had for a couple of years that is networked to the new PC which is having a different problem. I have made no changes to this computer. Most of the same archived folders are on it as well and here is what I get on it.
When trying to run Version 7 I get the following error.
Program: CDIALOGFORM.VALIDATE
Line: 28
Error: 111
Message: Cannot update cursor
Versions 8 and 9 run fine on the laptop.
Have run latest version of netsetup on both computers with the same result.
The PC is running Windows XP and the laptop is running W2K.
Any ideas or suggestions. Don't know if these run on the Church computer at this time. Will check later today.

Tom,
you probably need to install the actual version on the machine. I have three different versions available to run, each in its own directory. I suspect all the supporting .DLLs need to be registered in Windows so they are available to the programs.
Version 9 probably runs fine, because you installed from CD, correct ?? I would do the others the same way.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Neil
I thought that is what I might have to do. Guess I'll have to resurrect the old CD's. Found out it doesn't work at the Church either. Just had a hard drive upgrade on that PC as well so any registry files would be missing on it as well. And now that I think about it the hard drive was upgraded on the laptop as well
And yes I did load version 9 from a CD.
Thanks for the help.

Wow, your post is like a highlight reel of common PowerChurch errors!

Actually, that is the problem, but the error message is misleading. Version 7 was written using Foxpro 3, which will cannot address more than 768MB of RAM. If you have more, you'll get this error. Later versions are written using later versions of Foxpro, and it's no longer a problem.

NeilZ was right on this one - just run the netsetup.exe in each program directory, and that'll reinstall and register the files without having to install from CD.

Most likely, that's a problem with the share settings on your PC. Make sure you've shared version 7 with full read AND write access. Also, make sure the user permissions under security allow you read and write access. That error message means you are unable to write to the database.

UGH !!! So much for bigger is better. Have not found out yet but I must assume that the RAM was increased on the Church computer. Running netsetup in version 8 resolved the problem on the home PC. Will need to try it at the Church, but assume it will wotk there as well. On the version 7 issue. Why can't I run that on it's own on the laptop, which has less RAM. The only one I really would need to run networked would be Version 9 since all other version are not having any data changed? I thought it ran that way before I replaced the hard drive. All the data is in the directory I am running V7 in anyway.

Found that I could run version 7 off the CD that it was originally save to. So just copied it to the hard drive and it worked fine. Have since found I have a couple of years of DOS version data saved. When I try to run them I get a "Divide by Zero or Overflow" error. Can these be run on an XP or W2K system?

You are running into all the old problems. That problem is from version 6.1 or 6.2 when you try to run the program on a machine faster than 300 mHz. Go to this page and download the updated runtime files and it should fix your problem.

Thanks Jeff that fixed the problem. You guys are great. As I have said in the past this is the best forum for help and support out there. It makes a great piece of software even better.
