Has anyone changed anything on your system ?? Permissions to the PC+ directory ?? That 'READ ONLY' comment tends to lead to the conclusion that someone made the directory read only.

The directory settings are on Windows. How do you have Powerchurch setup at your location, using a client/server model, or stand alone machine?

If its a stand-alone machine, are you logging in using the original user's Window's account, or a different account on the machine?

There's alot of different scenarios that could be causing this, so if you could answer the above questions, it may help.

The computer is on a workgroup system but it is the only computer with pc installed.

There is only an administrator and one other account and I am having issues with both

Everything I remember about this error points to a 'read only' setting on the Windows directory where Powerchurch is installed. As a stand-alone machine, this should not be happening, but not knowing HOW it was installed can make this tricky.

Here's an idea, using the ADMINISTRATOR's Window account, or a Windows account with full ADMIN privilages:

1. Do a complete backup of the database using the PC+ backup utility to a CD. Write down the PC+ Registration number, you can get this by pressing the ALT+F1 buttons together.

Now if you want to do all this on the current machine continue with step 2. If you would rather try on a different computer, go to step 4.

2. Using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMs application in the Windows Control Panel, remove Powerchurch from the machine.
3. Delete (or rename) the directory where Powerchurch was first installed. This directory tree is not deleted, as the DATA files are not deleted when PC+ is removed.
4. Reinstall Powerchurch to the computer, then start Powerchurch. It should ask you if you're upgrading and if you have a database to upgrade. Click on NO. You'll then be asked to enter the church's information. Enter the registration number, and just a few dummy words in all the other blocks. Don't worry, the church info will be restored when you restore the backup.
5. When Powerchurch is finished creating the databases, I forget if it will ask you to restart the program or not. If needed, restart. Now restore the backup to the new installation of Powerchurch and see if this version can be updated. It should be.

Hope this helps.

Did you ever get a decent solution?

I am having the same problem, but I can verify that all of the file permissions are set to full control for the domain admin, the individual user, and all domain users. I called tech support, but they don't seem to have an answer...
Thanks / DJH
