Migrating V9 datafiles manuelly to V10

Post by trues »

I made the mistake and had two version of Powerchurch 9 and 10 on the server.

One user(Membership and Contributor) ignored my email and continue to update Membership and Contibution.

Can I just move the Contribution and Membership datafiles over to V10. If so what files do I move over

Unfortunately, its not that easy, since there were changes to the database that must be applied to those files.

If accounting was not used, the easiest thing (as was mentioned) is to removed Powerchurch 10, and delete the Powerchurch 10 directory tree this removes the PC+ 10 DATA directory. Then reinstall and reconvert the database.

However, if accounting was used, then you'll have a harder time:

1. Do a backup of the accounting files from v10 using the backup utility, save on disk or flash drive.
2. Remove the network SHAREs from the v9 and v10 directories. This will keep the users from both versions of the program.
3. Using ADD/REMOVE Programs, remove the V10 installation. To be safe, also remove the V10 runtime files.
4. Delete the V10 directory tree, this will delete the DATA directory too, so the next step will run.
5. Reinstall V10, when PC+ starts it will ask if you're upgrading, then will search for a V9 database, or you can enter the directory manually. Let it convert the database, then it will close.
6. Apply the v10 Maintenance Release, then restart the program.
7. Using the Backup/Restore utility, restore the accounting files backed up in step 1.
8. Share the v10 directory on the network will full user permissions to all.

Hope this helps.

Using PC+ since 1999.

This is actually not a viable way to handle this problem at all. Neilz's solution above is definitely a better way to go.
