Hello to the PC community

Hello PC community.

My name is Troy and I am a web programmer. I've learned that the church plant in which I am involved has purchased PowerChurch. As a web programmer, I am interested in accessing PC data from other applications and platforms, especially Python [1]_ running on Linux. I see no need to create a second database with everyone's contact information. Can you imagine the nightmares in trying to keep the two in sync?

I note that PC is a VFP application for Windows, that others have had success using ODBC for read-only access, and that VFP has been put to rest by Microsoft [2]_. It also seems that, in the future, some parts of VFP may become open source [3]_. That's good news for all of us.

As a note to the PC development team, you may want to look into Dabo [4]_ as a possible VFP replacement. It is a desktop application framework with support for multiple platforms and databases.

God's Peace.
Troy

P.S. The strange markup is reStructuredText [5]_, a handy way of writing documentation. The URLs are butchered because of the anti-spam features in the forum.

Accessing PowerChurch database

Hello Troy,

I too am a web programmer and am working with my church to access the data from PowerChurch for use on their website. I'm wondering if you had any luck with any of your suggestions. I'm especially interested in publishing the membership directory online and allowing users to update their own information (although I fear this may not be possible).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Todd
