Upgrading from 8 to 8.5

Post by John Moak »

Just a newbie question:

I want to get everyone on the same platform. Our Secretary has 8.5 and our Treasurer has 8.0. I am going to install 8.5 on the Treasurer's new latptop computer. Seems to me that I install 8.5 on the laptop first. Then, I back up the 8.0 data from her home computer. I then import the 8.0 backup data into 8.5. Not quite sure of the exact steps in 8.5 to make a clean upload.

You will want to install v8.5 on the old computer first. You won't be able to restore a v8 backup into v85.

After installing v8.5 on the old computer, go ahead and start the new program up for the first time, you will be asked if you have a prior version that you are upgrading from. At this point, choose Yes, and point to the directory where version 8 is installed. The program will do the rest for you.

In v8.5, make a backup, which you can then restore onto the v85 installation on the new laptop.
