Default beginning of year date

Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

Default beginning of year date

Post by LarryG »

We use Power Church quite heavily but we are on a fiscal year setup that begins on July 1. Is there a way to set the default lookup date on the contrbution reports to default to July 1 rather than January 1? We look up contribution history by envelope number almost constantly and it would be very convenient to default to July rather than constantly backing to that date. We have the version 10.

Currently, there is no way to adjust the default date on Contribution reports. However, that sounds like a great addition to the wish list !!

FWIW ... I believe most churchs run their contributions on a calendar year basis, and the system is setup for that common denominator.

If the default for contributions year start were set to some other month, to line up with a different accounting year fiscal year, wouldn't you have to be constantly changing the start date for contributors' statements in January when you prepare those for income tax purposes? That always runs by calender year, doesn't it? As it is set up now, when you go to print the contributors statements in January, the date fields are preset for Jan-Dec of previous calendar year, so you have much less to input.

Aha ... great point !! However, if you use pledges, the system will recognize the dates used as beginning and end of the pledge and (I seem to remember) display those numbers properly.
