Problem Upgrading from Power Church 8.5 to 9.0

When attempting to upgrade from power church + 8.5 to 9.0 from a CD on Windows 98, an error message is encountered stating that Internet Explorer is not the correct release number. This computer is not connected to the internet. Windows 98 is no longer supported by MS so an upgrade to IE is not possible and I doubt that this computer can be upgraded to XP.

Can we get Power Church 9.0 running without IE since this computer is not connected to the internet? We need 9.0 to print the W2 froms correctly.

Or can we get an 8.5 patch on a CD that will fix the W2 printing problem, i.e., the switching of the "SS#" and the "control#" fields?

There are some features that require some of the Windows files that are contained in (at least) IE5.5.

You should be able to download IE6 from Microsoft (from a computer connected to the internet) and burn it to a CD to bring to this one. Just make sure you get the full install, not the web installer (a very small file that, when run, installs the full update over the internet).

Also, make sure you get the latest MR of v9 to get the most up to date W2 format.

Resolved the above problem with the upgrade of PC+ from 8.5 to 9 by purchasing a new computer running Vista. We installed PC+ 8.5 on the new computer then did a complete data restore. Then we upgraded to PC+ 9 using the latest maintenance issue received on a CD that we requested last week (No on-line access). This was successful and all the 8.5 data was converted and we seem to be running on 9.0 OK.

However, when we attempt to do a data back up to the writeable CD drive that is part of the new computer, it does not work. PC+ does not detect any removable disk drives. Note that the DVD/CD RW drive does work as it was used to do the PC+ installation.

Any suggestions?

You may want to review this Knowledge Base article:

I'm not sure if this has changed for version 9 recently but this line pertains to your problem:
Please also note that currently it is only possible to back up to CD-R/RW drives. DVD burners are not currently supported, even if you're backing up to a CD-R/RW disk.

Is it possible to use a USB thumb drive for PCH backups in version 9 or is a floppy or CD burner the only choice? I would like to backup everything before I install 10.4 which allows backing up to a DVD/CD combo drive. Our new Vista computer does not have a floppy or CD burner.

You can use a 'thumb drive', a USB external hard drive, ZIP, etc, even a networked drive that is recognized and mapped to the computer. The only problem ver 9 has (if I remember right) is with DVD/CD recorders.

That said, you could have gone directly from 8.5 to Ver 10 without going through Ver 9.

Hope this helps.
