SMTP Email server error

Post by CalvaryChapelMH »

I'm trying to get our email set up on powerchurch so we can send out contribution statements via email. Our email is through qwest and our SMTP email server is pop.boise.qwest. Powerchurch will not accept this because it's 'pop' but qwest doesn't have any other email servers besides that. What do I do?

Is the full name of the server pop.boise.qwest, or pop.boise.qwest.net ?? The reason I ask is that I was doing some searches over at the Qwest website and came across a thread on their user support forums that had a user using a server called pop.phnx.qwest.net.

One of the answers that came back on that thread was this:
Unless you have a static ip with Qwest or have a package that gives you Qwest email then you can't send through the Qwest mail servers. You can only relay mail through their smtp servers 2 ways. Either you have a static ip. Or you pop before you send which means you have to check a Qwest email address which authenticates you and then you send through their mail servers. And you would have to have an @qwest.net email address not an @q.com address.
This would be a reasonable answer if you access your email through a web interface, and not an email program such as Outlook or Thunderbird.

Without knowing how your email is setup for use, the other users and tech support can't do much more than speculate.

So, if you could let us know how you access your email it would help.

A quick Google search brought me to this page:

http://www.qwest.net/help/roaming.html#config

Your SMTP address is listed here as: pop.bois.qwest.net (note the spelling of boise)

Good grief ... didn't think of using Google for the info ... just went to Qwest's website. Shows you how 'easy' it was to find that info on the site ... NOT !!
