New Member Contributions Report

Post by UUCD »

What is the best way to code members so that when a contribution report is printed it will sort out the new member contributions (for budgeting purposes and tracking the giving of new members)

It seems like just putting the new members in a separate status won't help because the contributions reports are run by envelope number and not member status. Should I make the new members a special set of envelope numbers?

That won't work, as eventually the 'new' members will eventually be 'old' members.

That said, there is no easy way of doing this outside of using envelope numbers. You could use the personal profile status code and create a new status of 'new member' , then you could use the Selected Contributors report to select this status.

Then after six months, or whatever period you choose, you could switch them over to regular member status.

My opinion:

at my last church we did not worry about budgeting 'new members' contributions until they made a pledge. That was the basis of all our budgetary decisions. Until a pledge was made, we just added the contributions to the general fund as 'found money', and our church board decided what to do with it.
