Hello to All -
I've been struggling with setting up the e-mail function in Powerchurch Plus. I cannot get past the test without an error. So, after looking around here, I determined we needed to upgrade to latest maint. release.
We are now on version 10.4
Now, when I test the e-mail in System Setup I receive this message:
"A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host."
We're using Windows XP Pro, Version 2002, SP3 and MS Outlook, Version 11, Build 5608.5606.
Our ISP is bellsouth, SMTP is mail dot bellsouth dot net (formatted correctly, I had to spell it out in this forum) We have the same e-mail address in PC+ and Outlook.
Can anyone here offer a clue as to why we cannot send e-mail from within Powerchurch?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: System Setup - Email
I'm going to ask the usual question: has the firewall been told that Powerchurch will be connecting to an SMTP host ?? The reason I ask is that that message seems to indicate that the system is unable to find the internet.UUCS wrote:Hello to All -

The next step would be to see what the ISP requires for SMTP connection.
I checked the requirements for bellsouth.net, and it requires the use of a non-standard port - (465) as well as authentication with username and password. SSL is not needed for Bellsouth.
To access the non-standard port, when you enter the SMTP server use this line:
mail.bellsouth.net:465
Hope this helps.

Hi Again -
Yes, after looking a little deeper into the system, I found that the firewall in the AT&T security suite that was recently installed was blocking access to the Internet. Doh!! This is a new PC so we're still trying to get everything working right.
Anyway, once that was unblocked, the e-mail worked fine.
Thank you for your response and hope this can at least help others who may have problems setting up e-mail.
