Version 11 Network Problems

Post by wms7328 »

Have encountered a strange problem after loading MR for Version 11. After loading Version 11 on main computer, I set up the other networked computers by using the netsetup11 program that installs the run time files on the networked computers. Initially everything work great and we operated for several days with no problems. Tonight I loaded the 1/6/10 maintenance release on main computer and started having following problem:

When starting PC from a networked computer it seems to startup OK but then asks if you want to register the program. No matter what you answer you get the following error: (receptionist-pc is the computer where PC program is located)

Program: pcsetting.savesetting
Line: 166
Error:56
Message: There is not enough disk space for \\receptionist-pc\pcpluss11\data\pcinfo.fpt

I deleted the run time files for version 11 on networked computer and reloaded using the netsetup11 program but got the same issue. Also tried to reindex the files and still had the problem. Several other networked computers seem to work fine. No known network problems with other applications.

OK ... if I'm reading this right, you have PC+ networked on a few machines, but this one is having a disk space error, but the others run PC+ fine, is that right ??

The obvious question would be, how much hard drive space is left on that computer's C Drive ??

Using PC+ since 1999.

Thanks for your quick reply. There is a lot of hard drive space, over 50GB, on the computer having problems. I'm also having some problems with a second computer connected to network, although on that computer I don't get the registration message each time I run PCV11.

Everything was initially running fine after I loaded V11. The trouble seemed to start when I loaded the MR for V11 dated 1/6/2010. One thing I noticed when I did load V11 on our main computer, I received a message that a MR was available. However, when I tried to download it directly, received an error message and PC didn't load the MR. Unfortunately, I didn't copy the error at the time. I saved the MR later and loaded it on main computer and it seemed to work OK. Didn't know what was included in the MR to know if it possibly could be causing this problem.

One thing I thought about but haven't tried yet. Delete PCV11 from main computer and then reload it without loading the MR and see if that works. Would that be worth a try?

It's also possible that somehow this is related to our network. I"m going to check that out this morning but I do know that all other applications on the network seem to be running OK.

This looks to be related to anti-virus scanning during a write of the file.
Are the local machines set to not scan network drives?
Using an mapped drive (instead of the UNC path you presented) reduces network lag, which might be part of the culprit causing this.

Share the POWERCHURCH folder and map it on the workstations. Then run the NETSETUP again. On some systems (Vista and 7 notably) you may need to also map the network drive in an administrative CMD window.

Once you've got a back up of the current problem, reindex the files to see if any problems are detected, and if it fixes this problem.

Thanks again for the prompt reply. I did try a version of this today and it appears to have fixed the problem. I rebooted the networked computer giving problems and reloaded the run time files using netsetup11 and everything seems to be working OK now.

I'll check on the virus scanning settings.

As a followup for everyone on this issue. After I changed our virus scanning program to not include the PC folder on the network and not to scan network drives, I've had no other problems.

Once again, the PC folks are very helpful in resolving all issues. Thanks to all of you for a job well done.
