Entering contributions by name instead of envelope number
I would like to enter contributions for people using their last name instead of having to use the envelope number. The name is greyed out on the contribution page. How can I do this?

Envelope numbers are required for contributions, the number is used to tie the Contribution database to the Membership database. It also helps when you want to segregate one time givers from members/weekly givers when creating the Quarterly/Yearly Contribution Reports for tax purposes. You would do this by using one range of numbers for members/weekly givers (101 thru 1000) and another range for visitors (1000 thru 1999). I also use a range (3000 thru 3999) for archives, as you have to maintain contribution records for at least 3 years per the IRS.burgess531 wrote:I would like to enter contributions for people using their last name instead of having to use the envelope number. That said, you can look up names during the contribution entry by clicking on the magifying glass button next to the envelope number block. You can adjust lookup from a simple Find where you have to enter BOTH the Last and First names, to an Incremental Search (which I prefer) where you can simply start typing the last name, and the name list will scroll down to the person (or persons) with that last name.
For instance, you can click on the button, and start typing SMITH, and the system will scroll to the list of SMITHS in the database, from there you can select the correct one to credit the contribution to.

I don't know if it's true for all versions, but in V11 you can do the same thing by clicking on the F2 key.NeilZ wrote:.... ...you can look up names during the contribution entry by clicking on the magifying glass button next to the envelope number block.
