We are running Power Church 11 through our server on to our computers. My question is, We are taking a staff retreat and I would like to show them more of what power church can do while we are there. Is it possible to run Power Church on a laptop (it's already installed on it) without it being logged onto the server? If not, can I install one of the other versions on that laptop without screwing up the server version on that computer? I don't necessarily want to make changes while we're away, though might be nice, but to just do some more training with the rest of the staff and it would be helpful to use our real data.
Thanks.

I take it that the laptop is networked on the system ?? Well, the good news is that anything you try to do with that installation won't work. You won't have access to the database.calvarymo wrote:We are running Power Church 11 through our server on to our computers. You can install Powerchurch 11 to a directory other than the default (I have such a setup here).
The default is usually: c:\powerchurch\pcplus11. During the install the setup program gives you the opportunity to change that default, you can use C:\PCPLUS11\PCPLUS11 and the install program will install to that directory.
Before you install, open the networked version of Powerchurch, then go to the HELP menu, and select About Powerchurch. Write down the registration information found there.
Then make a BACKUP of the existing database, and store the backup somewhere on your laptop (My Documents is good)
The steps to install would be as follows:
1. Put the CD in the drive, and select install from the menu that should appear (if it doesn't, double click on the CD drive icon).
2. Change the install directory.
3. Let the system install.
4. Apply any new Maintenance Releases.
5. Start Powerchurch, it will ask you if this is an UPGRADE from a previous version. Click on NO.
6. Enter your registration data that you wrote down, then click OK (or continue, don't remember offhand)
7. System will create an empty database.
8. Restore the database from the file you saved in My Document.
You now have a working version on your laptop that you can use to demo features.
Then (if you want) you can delete this installation by going to the 'Add/Remove Programs' applet in the Control Panel. The removal will not delete that C:\PCPLUS11 directory, you will have to do that manuall.
Hope this helps.
