Hi

In the backup/restore option, I see, I can backup only a few modules and not all data... My question is:

I work with membership and activities.

Someone else works on contributions, accounting and accounts payable. Sometimes, if he gets a contribution and the envelope is not created, he can go create a member and assign the envelope using the contribution module.

If I do a backup of membership only. Next day, he creates an envelope, then I restore my backup of membership. Is the member he created with the envelope still there?

When you restore a backup all current data is overwritten. So any changes made to the module that is being restored will be gone.

FWIW ... as far as I know, there is no way to preclude anyone from doing a backup of any part of the database, whether all the data, or just part of it.

The only reason (in my humble opinion) that areas of a networked Powerchurch database should need separate backup is when you're going to change something that is only used in the module itself.

For instance, if I was changing the Contribution Funds in some way, renumbering, or renaming. I'd do a backup of Contribution data only in case I goofed and needed to restore at the time I was doing those changes. After that time, that backup would no longer be current, and I'd delete it.

All other backups would include ALL the files. So, if all I did was do membership, I'd do a full backup. If all I did was Contributions, I'd do a full backup. This is to keep the data integrity and relationships between the modules, such as the membership and contributions link through the envelope number, intact.

Again, this is for a NETWORKED system. If you're setup where Contributions are entered on one non-networked machine, and membership updated on another machine, or Accounting is done off-site, then that is a completely different problem.

In a user's profile under the System Utilities tab you can uncheck the backup box (if it was checked) to prevent a user from doing a backup.

Granted, however the original post said this:

There is, AFAIK, no way to restrict backups to only one area.

thank you all for your replies... I guess the easiest way would be if one person would work on membership and contributions and the other would work on accounting... both would be working on different systems without any relation with one another.

now my next question

Can powerchurch be installed on a network?

If the answer is yes and it's at church. If I access the network from home, my problem is to print. Am I able to print on my printer at home or will it print on the printer at church?

You might want to look into PowerChurch on line. This may resolve all of you problems since you can access the database from anywhere and everyone will be using the same database so you would not have the synchronization issues between membership and accounting. There is a monthly cost but it might be the best solution for your situation.

Other than going online, Is there any other way to have powerchurch print on my printer at home if i am accessing it at church?

The way that PowerChurch Online does it is to print to a PDF file, download it to your computer, then print it to your printer. This all happens in the background, but theoretically you could do that same process manually.

Actually, that is NOT the easiest way, as you'd have to be able to transfer the Contributions data to the person doing the accounting. The only way to do that would be instead of Posting Contributions directly to Funds Accounting, you'd have to post to a file, which then would have to be brought or emailed to whomever would be doing the accounting.

Yes, this is the way most churches have their system setup. As far as accessing the church network from home, it depends on how you're accessing the system. If you're using something like GoToMyPC, you can print directly to your local printer using the GoToMyPC interface. You would just have to set your local printer as the GoToMyPC printer, which would then appear in the list of printers available to you when you print from the networked Powerchurch.

If you're accessing the network in a different manner, then you would have to check to see how to setup a local printer using that interface.

I am looking at some remotely access softwares and i found teamviewer... I called them and they said i can print on my local printer. do you know if powerchurch will let me print on my printer if i use teamviewer

I"ve never used the product, looking at the website, I'm not sure how easy it is to install or use. I"ve used GoToMyPC in the past (and I still use it to administer the PCs at my last church location). I know that GoToMyPC is easy to use and install, and I've never had a problem with it.

That said, if Teamviewer has the kind of setup that GoToMyPC does, that is, it creates a virtual printer on your church computer, that will then print at your home computer, it should work fine, as Powerchurch will see the virtual printer as a valid printer to use.

OK. So now, I installed teamviewer to be able to work on powerchurch. But I am not able to make it print on my printer.

I know it's not a related question to power church, but are you able to help me please

Sorry Jane, I have no experience with this product.

However, I did take a look at their manual and while it listed that you needed to install the TeamViewerVPN in order to give your 'partner' (I take to to mean the remote computer) access to your local printer, it did not give any details.

My suggestion is that based on the information I gleaned on the 'free' version, you can transfer files between computers. I'd save reports as PDF files, then transfer those files to your local computer, then print the files.

That said, I do suggest that you see if the church will get a subscription for GoToMyPC, it is MUCH easier to use, and the printing is automatically setup for you.
