PowerChurch Today problem

Post by jabrancich »

When PC is turned on on the main computer, PowerChurch Today says it is loading, but nothing ever comes up. We have it set to show Birthdays, Anniversaries and Newly Registered Families. We do not have this problem on any of the networked computers that use the same PC program. Any ideas?

I take it that the networked computers are used by different Userids ?? If so, make sure that the person who logs in on the main computer has not changed their settings.

What settings do you mean? He has selected those three categories to be displayed in PowerChurch Today. Are there other settings that might be wrong?

Each person can have their own settings. You said that the other computers are working fine, just this one is not displaying the categories. Could it be that this person has created different settings, or turned off the PC Today display ??

No, his settings are the same as the others, and PC Today is turned on. In fact, the window comes up, and it lists each of the 3 categories, but under each, it says "Loading" (just as the other computers do for a few seconds when PC is first turned on, but that message is soon replaced with the data -- birthday, anniversaries, new families)

Interesting ... ok .. which version of Powerchurch are you running, and do you have the latest Maintenance Release installed ??

This seems to ring a bell with me as a problem I have had in the past. You might try running netsetup on the computer that is having a problem and see if that resolves your problem.

Thanks for your reply. We are still having the issue. The problem is on the main computer on which PC resides. Would that one use netsetup?

Not normally, but outside of a full reinstall, Netsetup would replace the file that was missing.

If I remember correctly, the PowerChurch Today window loads HTML output using Internet Explorer controls. Do you happen to know if this one computer has uninstalled Internet Explorer? In newer Windows versions, you can do this, but in older ones uninstalling Internet Explorer would break everything.

You've nailed it. This computer had an older version of Internet Explorer and it was uninstalled in favor of another browser. Thank you.

FWIW ... if you're using Firefox or another browser, you really don't have to uninstall IE, just make sure you set the new browser as the default. This will still allow you to have IE on the system, but available for programs that use it as the called browser.

I new there was a reason why I did not uninstall IE when I switched to Firefox. :D
