please excuse the redundancy if it has already been posted. But isnt there a danger in allowing all network users full control of the shared drive? (accidental or malicious deletions of files or directories) as the drive is essentially wide open to all with full control?
Thanks
Barry
We do not recommend sharing the drive, but the PowerChurch folder. For a small 2 or 4 computers connecting to the data on another users workstation this works very well.
When you have a server and someone maintaining the security, the common thing seen is a group with modify rights to the PowerChurch folder.
Full control allows users to change the rights and take ownership of files and folders. Modify allows them to add/delete/change files and folders.
Due to the architecture (dating to the early 1980's) of some processes, temporary files are created and deleted into the folder where the executable resides. So Modify rights are still required for PowerChurch 11. Version 12 is anticipating removing this requirement.
We also recommend making regular backups. This helps with data corruption due to power or hardware troubles. It will also help with data loss from the unintentional user mouse click.
Please note: On demand backup programs that detect file changes and immediately create a back up of the file has been determined to temporarily lock a file causing PowerChurch to raise an error. This temporary lock cause the paired files to get out of sync and corrupt the data.
