PCPlus8 slow to launch after Windows upgrade

Post by baylorr »

We have 8 users on a peer-to-peer network and are upgrading the desktops to Windows XP. On two of those systems PcPlus8 has been very slow to launch after the upgrade. The others seem to be acting normally but it is taking several minutes to launch on the aforementioned two systems. Any suggestions?

PowerChurch slowdown

PowerChurch version 8 is XP compatible, so that isn't an issue.

On which system is PowerChurch actually installed? In a network installation, PowerChurch is installed on one computer (considered the server) and is accessed from each other computer (considered clients). I'm going to guess that these two affected systems are clients. Make sure that the drive mapping is configured correctly. To check this, right click on the PowerChurch icon on the affected system. Select Properties. Then, look at the Target for the shortcut. If it looks like "\\server\pcplus8..." then your drive is not mapped correctly. If it looks like "P:\\pcplus8..." then the drive mapping is correct. If it looks like "C:\PCPLUS8\..." it's installed locally. Refer to page 4 in the manual for network installation procedure, and to this article: http://www.powerchurch.com/support/kb/k ... icle_id=33 for more information about mapping a network drive.

Here's the new link to that document - http://www.powerchurch.com/support/kb/k ... icle_id=33

If this is set up correctly, you may have a networking issue. You can try different NIC cards and/or ports on your hub/switch. You may want a local network tech to check it out as well.
