V11 latest ver.
For printing labels to stick on budget envelope boxes I've done something different the last 2 years. I print the name of the person and envel # in Arial bold 14. Makes the names stand out. The address are set in Arial 9 (b/c we don't need addresses anyway).
This month I'm trying to do the run again and it always defaults to the built in 20 labels, small print (not the Custom Label) format. BTW, I can't make it work at church (Win XP Pro) nor with my laptop at home (Vista HP).
Here's how I set it up:
File/preferences/mailing labels/custom lable setting/custom/edit layout/change line 1 to arial 14 bold and move the next 4 lines down a smidge/file save/close/ok/ok. Oh, and I also choose 3 columns.
I then go to Contributions/Print mailing labels/select contributors/...../type of labels=Custom/2 labels per person/Print envelope numbers/ok
I can't figure out what's wrong. I must be missing a step. Thanks.
Custom mailing label problems.

Re: Custom mailing label problems.
If the labels printed using the standard label layout instead of your custom label layout, then it sounds like you either didn't choose the custom layout when prompted for which layout of labels you want to print on at that time, or possibly your custom label has been reset back to the standard label format.

Re: Custom mailing label problems.
Zorak, thanks. With due respect I listed the steps I took in my original post. I did not say, however, that I did a reset as well before all the other steps. Also when I'm in Contributions I make sure that custom labels are selected. There's been several Maintenace upgrades since last November when I did it last. Also, I can't make the custom layout stick when on my laptop at home either.
Is anyone else having problems with custom labels?

Re: Custom mailing label problems.
Are backups being restored on a regular basis, moving data from home to office and vice versa?
The custom label layouts are included in an all data files backup, which could in theory overwrite your customizations when restored from someone else's computer.

Re: Custom mailing label problems.
Not to belabor the issue but I don't work from home anymore b/c our pc's at church are networked, so no, no restores. Also before I print the custom labels I go through all the steps to reset them up (I'm not aware of any way to save a custom setup). I must be missing a step because they don't print right at home either.

Re: Custom mailing label problems.
Going through the process listed in the following article from the KB (it's also quoted in the V11.5 manual now), it will save these changes on the custom label. There isn't any reason that you should need to set this up every time you want to print.

When finished customizing the mailing label format:
- Go to File > Close.
- When prompted to save your changes, choose Yes.
- When prompted to use the custom layout as your default label format, choose Yes.
