A contractor we used last spring seems to have vanished. Have tried both email and phone contact, to no avail. Currently sitting on hold with IRS (on 2 phones, 2 different 800 numbers) to ask this question:
As the payer, what do I do about mailing a Form 1099-Misc to a contractor that I cannot locate?
Does anyone here have any ideas?
Thanks!
Eden

Can't locate contractor to send form 1099
*Still* learning... and gratefully so!

FWIW ... I'd give it a 'good faith' effort, and then give up. What did the IRS finally say.Eden Whitehead wrote:A contractor we used last spring seems to have vanished. The IRS said basically the same as you. If the envelope comes back as "Undeliverable" we are to keep it in our files in case the individual contacts us about it.
It was only $800.00 - but enough to require the form.
Thanks again,
Eden

Yeah ... I've been doing some janitor work for my wife's church until they find a permanent one, and as a 1099 contractor, I made $669 last year, so they had to print the 1099 for me !!Eden Whitehead wrote:NeilZ wrote: Thanks, Neil, for your input. (Always good to hear from you!)
