Can I only password protect contributions?

Pastor would like me to password protect only the contributions section of PC+. Is this possible? We wish to maintain transparency in the other areas but need to keep contributions confidential. We are using v11 on an XP machine and currently do not use any passwords.

I could just post the password for general access on the computer monitor, but it would look tacky and invite questions that I would rather not have to answer.

Thank You!

Having your PC+ open to everyone in my mind is a very dangerous situation. This allows anyone to do whatever they want to all modules. What is to keep anyone from changing membership information or accounts payable information as well as the contributions? I think that password protection is a vital part of the program and should be used to prevent someone form doing things they aught not be doing. Sooner or later someone is going to do something - most likely unintentional - that is going to cost some a lot of time and trouble to resolve. You can still have the transparency you want with a general access password and block the areas you wish to keep secure. If you clearly explain why you are doing this up front I would think there would be very few questions.

I definitely agree with Tom. Each person should have their own password, and then within the program, only have access to the areas that they need access to.

For instance, church secretary would have access to Membership, but not to Contributions or Accounting.
Bookkeeper/Accountant, only access to Funds Accounting
Financial Secretary/Contribution Counters - only access to Contributions.

However, you also have the granularity within the system to allow a 'general' account to view areas, but NOT do any changes or deletions

This is nice, but it doesn't answer my question.

Well then, if you can be more specific what you would like to do, and we can be more specific about the answer.

To answer your question about just blocking access to the Contribution module with a password I would have to say no. Using no password to access the program allows access to everything to anyone who opens the program. You can not select which module can be accessed or denied other than through individual passwords.

To control access to the program, you have to set up usernames and passwords with permissions specific for each username. So no, you can't just set up a password for contributions because once you set up a username and password for that one area, you have effectively set it up so that everyone has to log in.

As was suggested, you would need a general logon that would have the ability to see everything except contributions but wouldn't have the ability to change/delete anything. You would then want to set up at least one for looking at contributions. Other users might be set up with the ability to work in the program.
