Setting Margins on Reports

Post by hccdan »

I am trying to change the top margin on one of the contribution reports. Tales from Tech 2 Version 29 said the following about PC 9: "You can now change the top and bottom margins for built in reports so you can print any report on letterhead".

I can't find the ability to do this anywhere. I have also tried to export the report to Word, but because all of the data fields are text boxes, changing the margins in Word has no effect.

I desperately need to print year end tax receipts this week and would like to change the margin so that the return address fits in a two window envelope. A one window envelope will mean hours of work putting on return addresses to the envelopes. I can use the two window kind if I can only change the top margin.

I have PC version 8.5 still installed on my laptop with the old data files. I tried printing Contribution Statements from it and the return address and address fields fit fine in a double window envelope. However, when printing from version 9.0 neither address fits into the windows. Both addresses are too high on the page. It appears that in version 9.0 the top margin has been adjusted in the Contribution Statement report and it no longer prints properly to fit into a #9 or #10 envelope.

We just don't use letterhead ! We don't really see a need as long as the church's return address is properly printed on the report.

I realize that it looks good, but we print out over 700 end of year statements, many of two pages or more. We felt that using plain bond paper, is a better use of money, as letterhead costs alot more than plain bond.

However, if you're dead set on letterhead, you'll have to go into USER SETTINGS.

Pull down the FILE menu > PREFERENCES > USER SETTINGS. Look for the reports tab, you can set the margins for your use. If you're the System Admin, you can set the defaults, and each user can then change it for their own use.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help Neilz. That was exactly what I was looking for. Moving the top margin down now allows the addresses to show through the window envelopes.

I wasn't trying to print on letterhead at this point, I was just trying to get the addresses to show through the windows on the envelope. I agree that letterhead isn't really necessary and it is awfully expensive.

Thanks again for your help. That was the last place that I would have looked for margin setting.

We had a hard time finding envelopes that worked with the default settings at Staples. We finally found them in the special order catalog:

4-3/16" x 9", Double-Window Envelopes for Laser Forms, Gummed Closure, White, 1000/Box Item No. 381911

Margin for letterhead

Post by hajian »

I think there is another way to make room for your letterhead (for printing contribution reports). If you go to Preferences > Contributions Setup you will see a tab: Pledges/Statements. That gives you the option to select a top margin of your choosing, which, I assume, will apply only when you are printing contribution reports (of course, I could be wrong on that - seeing I've been using PC+ for a whopping 4 days now).

Hajian is right. Thats the place to find it. After you check the box, another box opens up to allow you to select the letter head height, which controls where on the page the statement starts printing. A little experimenting should get you the correct setting. It should apply only to contribution statements.

Forgot about that one ... as was mentioned, that works for the contribution statements only, the one I pointed out, does it for all reports.
