Using Power Church Online - When generating W2s for 2020, Truncate Social Security Numbers has 3 choices (None, -XX-1234, or ***-**-1234). If I select none, is the full social supposed to show on the printed W2. If I select -XX-1234, is the social supposed to show the social with the format on the printed W2. Or do these selections just apply if you chose to file W2s electronically. Where do socials appear truncated? My screen shows the full social security number, no matter what I choose.

Thanks for your help.

It only applies to the employee copies of the printed W2. The printed copies for state and federal filing still have to show the full SSN.

Can you explain when I might need to use these choices or to select one choice over the other.

Thanks.

It will be best to consult the source, the IRS W2/W3 instructions document:

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw2w3.pdf

This is covered briefly in the "What's New" section on page 1 and the "Social Security Numbers" section on page 2.
