Sending copy of 8.5 to a computer running 9.0

Post by hajian »

If I am running powerchurch 8.5 and I want to send the data files to someone running 9.0 (so they can check them /audit them), how is the best way to do that? If I backup the data files with 8.5, the backup file will not restore in 9.0. How can I get around this? Would it work if I sent the entire 8.5 "data" folder and had the person using 9.0 copy my data folder in his powerchurch files?

That wouldn't work either. The data structures are very different between 8.5 and 9. Basically, you'd have to upgrade your data to v9 and give it to the other person to restore. If they have a copy of 8.5, you could also give a backup for them to upgrade to v9.

So I guess there is no way for someone with 8.5 to give the data to someone with 9.0. For the person with 8.5 to upgrade the data to 9.0 they would need 9.0 - which would mean buying an upgrade. What about the person who has 9.0. Can he get a free "downgrade" in order to be able to read the data from 8.5, and if so, where?

I doubt it ... however, if they upgraded from 8.5, they may still have a copy around, and they can have both versions running on the same machine. All they would have to do is install 8.5 in a different directory.

FWIW ... its only $129 to upgrade to version 9.0, which has a lot of neat features that 8.5 doesn't. Its really worth the money !!
