Error message when trying to perform backup

We are currently using v9. Before downloading the new maintenance release, I attempted to perform a routine (I thought) backup. Ten attempts failed. The media used has worked on every previous attempt. Concluding that my CDRom was defective, I purchased and installed a new drive. Three more attempts failed. Ultimately a successful backup was achieved using Nero, software that came with the new drive, and one of the CD-Rs from my stash. The PC+ backup utility only says "Errors ocurred....try again when they are corrected" more-or-less. How can we determine what the errors actually are in order to correct them? Is this error message indicative of one type of problem? The maintenance release may make this question moot but I hesitate downloading the release until this issue is resolved.

As long as you have a good backup somewhere, I'd install the maintenance release. Backup to another networked drive for the time being, then see if the MR fixes the issue.
However, I don't recall if this was an issue fixed in the MR or not.

Errors were reported during the backup process. This backup is not usable. Please correct any problems and try the backup process again.

There should have been a reason on that display. Can you in see the full message? What was the reason?

I have recently been receiving this same message. The weird thing is it only starting happening recently. There is no reason for it. I use the same disks I have been and it will even still backup to old disks that aren't full, but when using new disks, I get the error message.
Help would be much appreciated!

We'll really need more information to be able to provide an adequate diagnosis. If you're making a backup to CD, there is a file in the PCPLUS9 directory called "cdrlog.log." At the end of this log file will be a descriptive message that gives a couple of error numbers. We can look those up to see what the problem might be.

Ok, so I went to the cdrlog.log file, but of course, it wasn't when I was receiving an error - the disks decided to work. But when I did receive an error, I went to that file and my computer gave me the 'black screen of death' (as us in the office like to refer to it) So I restarted my computer. I kept trying to open the log, but it wouldn't let me. [sorry, I tried]
But I have another 'issue' I put in a disk that hadn't been working, but amazingly it backed up. But when I went to verify the backup, it said to put in the last disk of the multi-disk set...it's on a CD so there isn't multi-disk set. This was the disk that I could get into the cdrlog.log file, but there wasn't anything out of the norm since it "backed up the disk" What would be the reason for that?

Here's something you can try: Search for cdwriterxp.ocx in your C:\Windows\System32 directory and delete it. Then run netsetup9.exe in the PCPLUS9 directory to reinstall it.
If that doesn't help, you may have a problem with your CD-R drivers, and you may need to reinstall any software that came with your CD-R drive.
