A number of our groups meet twice a month, for example, 1st & 3rd Monday of the month. What is best way to handle these recurring events that don't fit the mold?

You will need to add this a two seperate events. You can add a monthly recuring event that is the first Monday of the month and a seperate event for the third Moday of the month.
