Accessing backup files

Post by El Bethel Office »

How church office decided to "clean" our records by starting from scratch and restart the accounting process; we have v11.5. Before we move forward to start fresh January 2013, we have one problem that we need to clarify before moving forward.

How would we access the backup files, if we needed to conduct a restore or if we needed to look up files from 2012 for whatever purpose? What software or tool do we need to open/access those backup files, especially if we do not conduct a restore?

Thank you

The only way to access the backup file is with PC+. My suggestion would be to create a new folder called PC Archive or something similar and the copy the entire current PC+ folder into it. The you will have all of your current information to go back to when you need to. You can than start over if you want. I do the archive every year as my normal year end process.

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, we already backup our files once a month to a flash drive, because we send the files to an accounting company that does our bookkeeping professionally.

Our data has become out of balance over time and we desired to then clean up by starting from proper numbers.

If we want to go back and access these files for any future reference, we are unsure how to literally open the files (through PC +) from the flash drive? Where in PC + (what menu option) do we have the option of access these external files? We are unsure of the option we must choose to conduct this operation so to speak.

Thank you

To view those files, you would need to restore the backup. This will set the program back to the state when the backup was made. The restore is done the same way as the backup was made. From utilities, select backup & restore. Then select the restore option from the dialog box

Here is a step-by-step of what you would need to do.
Make a current backup of your data
Verify the backup of our current data
Restore the backup you need to review
Run any reports you need
Restore the current backup to get back to your current state

There is an easier way.

Install PowerChurch on another computer or into a different folder on the main computer. Restore the backup into this other copy of PowerChurch. This way you never disrupt your current records.
