Connecting Family Profiles
Is there a way to connect/ establish a relationship between 2 family profiles? For instance, we would like to be able to set up a family profile for a youth whose parents are not attendees and still keep track of the parent's contact information. We would rather not have the youth's personal profile within the family profile since the parents are not actively involved with the church. Would there be a way to identify that the youth has a relationship with another family profile?

There is not a way to record this relationship between families, other than recording a "note" on the family record, which really doesn't do much.
What is most commonly done is to enter the family as usual, with or without the name of the youth as a family name. You could set the mailing name "The family of Johnny Smith". Assign the parents Personal Status codes of inactive or non-attenders and assign the youth the appropriate Personal Status code of member / attender / active youth, etc.

We have several youths that are actively involved in our church whose parents are not members. We enter the parents information and mark their status as "Non-Member". In respect of the parents, we address any mailings to "The Parents of YouthNameHere". It is through this relationship with the child that many parents have followed and joined with us.
Of course, we would like to also be able to join families together to form those extended relationships and offer support to programs like Ancestry.com and other family tree software. This would be a really nice value-add. Hope this is something PC can consider in a future release.
