I understand I can print the barcode field out, using that font.

Our excel/word guy is asking it there is a way to just include that (regular, human-readable number on a report of his choosing?)

It that number available? If so, how to get it.

Do I need to export from the foxpro database, if so please let me know file/field, or better yet please include a sql.

Tons of thanks. --gary

Gary,

The number that identifies each family we call the mail_no, it is only used internally in the system and is not visible on any reports. If you go to Family Mailing List -> Export data, you can include the mail_no in the exports there.

To identify people is really a combination of two numbers; it is a combination of the mail_no described above and the directory sequence number, which in the data is called pers_no. The barcode is a concatenation of these two number. For example if the person is in family number 375 and is person 3 in the family the numbers in the barcode would be 0037503. The barcode also has a check digit that has to be calculated, and if I remember right starts and stops with an *, if you need the logic for that I can look it up.

What does he want the number for? We go to great pains to hide the computer part of things like numbers identifying families and people. In the old days when we first started, people were really nervous about id numbers being associated to people.

One of the techies has some software barcode libraries he likes, and is creating nametags for our congregation.

They look really good, and he is trying to put barcode on the back... When folks show up, they get their nametag.. Drop off in a basket when they leave. This is really nice for our brand new minister,,,, and for some of the old/new foggies that usually refuse to admit that its a good thing .

Attendance will be just a matter of scanning. So he needed to know what to put on the back. (They are using business card/labeling software that does a pretty nice job)

Anyway, all those nice packages want a number, and then THEY will wrap the pretty barcode stuff around it when they print the cards out.

So thanks for the structure.. We're off to the races...
