how to mark as deseased

Post by apgoogh »

Even reading the manual and other posts, I am perplexed as to how to mark someone as deseased. We are using version 10.4. There must be a way since you can exclude deseased members from reports...

Thanks,

Angela

Use the Personal Status Code field on the Maintain Personal Profiles screen. "Deceased" is one of the default options added there by the software.

If deceased is not one of the options that you have in this field, go to Membership > Personal Profiles > Maintain Custom Codes and click the Add button. Type "Deceased" then click OK. Now, you do have a deceased option.

Yes, you can add a code for deceased and mark.
But how will you permanently exclude the person marked as deceased from all normal reports.
I suggest that Power Church include an option for deceased which can be checked. and then programmed in such a way that when such an option is checked it does not allow that person to appear in reports, unless you deliberately include such persons with that options checked.
This would be better than using the code, as you explained.

There are times you need to keep the person in reports. End of year data to the denomination, tax statements to the estate.

FWIW .. you would have the same issue with members who have moved or left for another church, you have to filter them out from normal processing.

Which is why I never run a report without checking the Mailing List or Personal Profiles status I WANT to have on the report. With the ability to save the options for a report, all you need to do is it up once, save the options, and just reuse them over and over.
