Printed Directory Table of Contents

Post by denniston »

Currently we use Power Church Plus, but we need to be able to access our directory information on smart phones and when we are away from the church. We also maintain an Excel spreadsheet directory for this purpose. I was wondering if any of you had a good suggestion of an output for this purpose (we have about 1000 families).

I am experimenting with printing the directory to a pdf, but with so many names it's a long scroll down. Is there a way to export a pdf with hyper links to each letter of the alphabet?

Thanks

You could think about a One Body website. It provides an online directory, with additional features:
https://www.powerchurch.com/products/onebody. If you already have a website host, and it provides the minimum requirements for the software (which is free, as in Free Beer, and Open Source), it can reside in a subdirectory on that site, and you can have links from your main website.

I'm not sure if it has any 'responsive' templates for use by smartphones or tablets, but as long as you can access it by a browser, you should be good to go.

Neil is right that OneBody will support smart phones. You will need to sync your information from PowerChurch to OneBody. Another option is PowerChurch Online. It has web access to basic membership information. This is designed to use from your smartphone. This ties directly into your membership information and there is not a syncing process.

Another option that some people have done is to save the church directory to a PDF and then e-mail or download that to their phones. Obviously this is the most low tech way of doing, but does not require any other services.
