Changing font size for directory
I'm a new user of version 11.55, and the default size of the directory printout is too small. When I search Help, it says I can set font size on the Format menu -- but I can't find the Format menu! Can anyone help?
I'd also like to make the photos larger if possible when printing out the directory. (The program is set to the default setting of 800x600, but I think that has to do with file size rather than the size of the printed image.)
Thanks for any assistance!

The font size can be changed on custom reports, but not in the standard reports; nor can you change the size of the pictures.fccvictorville wrote:I'm a new user of version 11.55, and the default size of the directory printout is too small. That said, which directory are you trying to print? The Pictorial Directory under Personal Profiles Reports does give you a different format, but I think the fonts are about the same size.

Re: Changing font size for directory
I'm trying to print out the pictorial directory for families.
But I still have no idea where to find the "Format Menu" referred to in my Help search. Any idea?

As I mentioned above, the Format menu can only be found when creating a CUSTOM Reports and you start to put together the report layout. Standard report fonts cannot be adjusted.fccvictorville wrote:I'm trying to print out the pictorial directory for families.

OK .. I'm going to assume that you're talking about the basic Church Directory report since its the same report found under the Family Mailing List reports as well as the Personal Profile reports.
Just to make sure, you did try a test print of the directory, right ?? Which data areas are not large enough?
In any case, if you want to take the time to create a Custom Pictorial Directory where you can adjust the fonts, a tutorial can be found here on how to do that:

Yes, I did a test print of the pictorial directory. The names are JUST barely big enough, because they're bold caps. Addresses and phone numbers are too small for anyone with even slightly diminished close-up vision.
The default font size on our previous version (we were way back on Version 9!) was much better. I never had any complaints about that size.

FWIW .. I've been using PCPlus since version 8 and the print size really hasn't changed. Now, are you printing on the same printer ?? Try printing to a PDF, then verify the size there. Then print the PDF, see what happens.fccvictorville wrote:Yes, I did a test print of the pictorial directory. The names are JUST barely big enough, because they're bold caps. Not a new printer, and the print is undeniably smaller. When I lay 2 pages side by side, anyone can see it.
I tried saving to PDF, and it didn't help.

Re: Changing font size for directory
Was the directory from version 9 a pictorial directory? I did a test using the standard "Church Directory" report using the classic layout, one I created with pics, and one without. While the names look about the same size, the rest of the information was smaller.fccvictorville wrote:Not a new printer, and the print is undeniably smaller. Also, when I asked if you printed to a PDF, did you use the built-in PDF generator?? Try an external PDF print driver, such as the 'free' one found at software995.com.
I think you may see a difference in the size using that PDF printer driver. I did.
As I said, the other alternative is to create the custom pictorial directory, that will allow you to adjust the font size, as well as adjust the information included.

Re: Changing font size for directory
Yes, we always print a pictorial directory.
And it sounds like I need to do my homework, either to find the right outside program to create a PDF file, or to customize the directory to make it look the way it always did.
It's disappointing that our upgrade has taken this turn. The transition to the new version has been pretty painless in all other respects.
Thanks for your time and effort, though!

Re: Changing font size for directory
The old "Pictorial Directory" report is now called Selected Families with Pictures, since the regular Church Directory report now optionally includes pictures. Try running that and see if it gets you back to the report you are expecting to see.

Re: Changing font size for directory
Zorak, that does give me what I had before -- thank you!
However ... I don't see any option to print individuals' mobile numbers. That's gotten very important, because we have a lot of households with multiple cell phone numbers. In order to show who is who, I guess I need to find a way to make the new report work.
But thanks SO much. I know I've been getting cranky about this. While I'm at it, I want a pony!

Re: Changing font size for directory
The ability to add personal phone numbers and other information to the pictorial directory and having better layout options is why this report was deprecated.
I'll pass this thread along to our development staff for their consideration in designing reports in the next version.
