Cell phone numbers on Church Directory printouts

Post by dcc »

I am trying to get Cell Phone numbers to print out on my church directory. I check Cell Phone as one of the choices to print, but it doesn't. What am I doing wrong?

Just a quick question ... which church directory report are you using, the one under Family Mailing List, or the one under Personal Profiles ??

I've tried both. Is it possible that I haven't entered the Cell Phone numbers in the correct field?

The church directories only print phone numbers on the family level. ie home phone, 2nd home line, etc. If you are seeing cell phone as an option it is possible that someone at your church added that as a phone type for families.

Cell phone is usually associated with an individual so would be added on the personal profiles screen. The phone numbers in personal profiles are not included on a church directory because I believe most people would not want those phone numbers distributed to the whole church. I personally would be very upset if my church gave everyone my cell or work phone numbers. So are you sure you have everyone's permission to publish their cell phone number? Most people I know guard their cell number much more closely than their home phone number.

If you are wanting a report for leadership use, take a look at the Family Grouped Report in Personal Profiles. It prints all phone numbers, email addresses and personal status for each person in the family.

Thank you for answering. I'll look at the Family Group Report and hope it isn't too many pages long to print for our leaders.

Our church is in Hancock County Mississippi where the eyewall of Katrina landed. Cell phones are still the only communication some people have, so we are probably an exception to the privacy issue.

I tried the report, but cell phone numbers still do not print out.

A phone call just prompted my newest reply. I have quite a few members who are using only Cell Phones now will not go back to land lines because of Katrina. I know my daughter only uses a Cell as do many others. Maybe we could have a choice in the future to list Cell Phones on our directories.

The family phone number is the number that should be used to contact the family at their home. If they're using a cell phone, then that's the main number, there's no need to mark it as a cell phone, because there's no distinctiion needed.

Good point, but I still think we should be able to print cell phones if needed. A lot of my members who are going to Cell phones only are taking advantage of Provider offers and getting his and her numbers, so Family Number won't work in their instances. I think I'll present this to the Power Church developers.

Thanks for your insight.

Here's another thought, on the mailing list profile, you can change the current phone number tags from

Home Phone
Cell Phone
2nd Home Phone

to something like this:

Family Number 1
Family Number 2
Family Number 3

And list whatever phone numbers they want to use. Frankly the church shouldn't care as long as its a number that they can be reached at, and no one needs to know that they are cell phone numbers, since they are the only way to contact these people.

The system admin can change the number tags on the preferences => Family Mailnig List setup.
