Suffix is too short

Post by wilri01 »

We need the suffix "RScP" for our Practitioners, but the suffix field is only 3 characters wide. Has anyone else found suffix too short? Any suggestions for getting around this? The only thing I've thought of is adding ", RScP" to the end of the last name, but that makes searches hard.

FWIW ... most name suffixes are only 2 or 3 characters: Jr, II, III, IV etc. As the suffix is part of the mailing name, etc, it should not be used to track members with specific functions.

If you need to track your practictioners, I would use the functionality under ACTIVITIES, Maintain Offices Served. I would setup under Activities the church's various positions that need to be tracked.

For instance, at my former church, we had an activity number of 202 for Elder, with an activity department of 'Church Officers', an Activity Type of 'Ruling Elder', with a default role showing what church ministry they led.

You could do the same, and use that activity number to track all your specialzed members.

Neil,

Yes, we use skill/activity codes to track who is a practitioner, but we would like this suffix to print. For example, we are printing certificates right now using a CSV file for Word mail merge and need the suffix there.

I'm accessing the database with PHP's ODBC functions and producing my own CSV file, so I have the flexiblity of programming a solution for this, but it would be nice to have a longer suffix on mailing labels.
