Multiple email addresses for a Personal Profile

Post by Sue »

A number of our members have email addresses both at work and at home and we need to maintain both of them on PowerChurch. So far, I have only been able to resolve this by creating a Personal Status code, "e-mail at work" and entering a 'second' Personal Profile for the person.

For example, for an active member, I have to check the box for "e-mail at work" in addition to "Adult Member Active" when I pull the Church Directory report.

It would be great to be able to enter 2 email addresses for the same Personal Profile, which could show on reports, and each having the capability (when clicking on the email icon) to go directly to the "New Message" screen within email.

Any suggestions? Sue

We solve this by just entering their main email address, that is, the one they want church information sent to.

However, it would be a good idea if you could enter two or more addresses in the lcoation, perhaps separated by semicolons.

Actually, that seems to work. Of course, you can't choose one or the other to send to. You'll always send to both.

Actually, for what it's worth, we struggled with trying to put more than one email address in the "Email:" field, until we discovered that this only works when the addresses are separated by a comma rather than a semicolon. Once we got that straight, we've put in more than one email address for a number of our members.

'Course, as Zaphod points out, any email to an individual with more than one email address will always go to both addresses.

As or the 8/11/2005 release date PowerChurch Plus 9 can use either the comma or semicolon to seperate e-mails. This includes sending a report at the option to enter an e-mail address.

We have had this feature request before for multiple e-mail addresses. I may be missing something, but why do you need to have more than one e-mail address for someone? I have a work e-mail address and a personal email address. I have all my church e-mail sent to my personal e-mail address and I regularly check both accounts. In fact when someone sends something to both my work and personal, I get two copies in my inbox.

We hear all the time that PowerChurch is too complicated to use, in fact that is the number one reason people return the program. If we added more than one e-mail address we would have to add selections as to what e-mail address to send this message to and add additional fields to set what the default e-mail address is for that person is. This just adds to the complexity of the program.

I am not trying to be flip, but I have not heard a good reason as to why more than one e-mail address needs to stored for an individual. Why do you need to send a message to one address and to a different one at other times? I did ask this of one user and she said during the day they want to send it to the work address and at night they would send it to their home e-mail address. Is this a real need?

It does seem excessive to add a feature to use one during the day, and one at night for the congregation.

IMHO  -- PC+ is not a contact manager where you need to have both emails. If the email is that urgent that they must have immediate response, then a phone call is probably the best way to get hold of the person. Most emails from my church (and I'm using mine as an 'average' church) are nothing that can't wait until the person checks their personal emails. And frankly, many people check their personal email using a web browser during the day anyway.

:?: Finally, I can't understand people sending PC+ back because its too complicated!!!

My wife (who does software process improvement), and I (programmer) evaluated a bunch of different packages back in 2000 to find one that would provide what we needed, was user friendly, and gave the most bang for the buck. Boiled down to two .. one a $4,000 package and PC+ ... guess which won !!
